DROUGHT

13

Drift dry desolation
creeping
insidiously infiltrating
enervating
dessicating
paddock
bare
wind ridged
dust ever moving
life blood flowing
going.

Quiet sly wind
secret soil stealing
dust whispering
slipping sliding smoking
seeping out
seeping in.

Drifting sand...
invading
pervading
abrading
whispering sand
In bed the farmer lies
each small sounds scrapes his heart
he well knows the code
listens helpless
as through the quiet night
life blood of a paddock
mother of future crops
moves stealthily across the road.
